Namaskar Friends,
I am pleased to present a new song in this edition of अनमोल रतन. As it is the first song of 2024, I have selected a light-hearted, funny song for you. Hope you will enjoy the song.
English version of the blog is right after the Marathi version.
(Aati Hai Yaad Humko January February)
Director: Arvind Sen
Cast: Nalini Jaywant, Sajjan, Kishore Kumar, Iftekhar
Lyrics: Raj Shekhar
Composer: Khemchand Prakash, Bhola Shreshtha
Singers: Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosale
At the time when you are enjoying the cold mornings of the 2024 winter, here is a song that will enhance your happy mood. The song is from the film "Muqaddar" (1950) composed by Khemchand Prakash and Bhola Shreshtha. While, you would have known Khemchand Prakash as the Music composer of the superhit film "Mahal" (1949) and its equally blockbuster song "Aayega Aanewala", the composer Bhola Shreshtha is little known. If you scratch your memory a little bit, you will remember a singer viz. Sushma Shreshtha from the 70's and 80's who was popular for a while, she is the daughter of Bhola Shreshtha. Bhola ji composed more than 50 songs for various Hindi films in his film music career.
"Muqaddar" happened to be the 4th movie as an actor for Kishore Kumar. He acted in around 88 films from 1946 to 1989. Asha Bhosale started her film playback career in 1948 through the film "Chunariya" composed by Hansraj Bahal. Asha ji was barely 15-16 years old then
Today's song happens to be the first ever duet sung by Kishore and Asha together. Kishore, who was later known to be Yogeling expert, used this art for the first time in this film. "Muqaddar" happened to be the last movie of Kishore Kumar with his Guru Khemchand Prakash who had introduced him as a singer in his film "Ziddi' (1948). Khemchand ji died within few months after "Muqaddar" was released.
This particular song is very peculiar in the sense that it carries names of all the 12 months in a year. While Kishore sounds to be at his usual best, Asha ji seems to be under the influence of the then popular singer Shamshad Begum. Asha ji has tried to sing in Western style as well. The song will certainly make you happier. Enjoy the song.
I am not a big fan of popular Bollywood music. But your blog made me listen this and I really liked excellent voice of Asha Bhosle. See the influence of jazz scatting cleverly done with an Indian mood and tone.
