Welcome to the Part 2 of my 4-part series on Anil Biswas alias Anil da. In Part 1, we learnt about his life and career as a music composer. If you haven't had a chance to read Part 1, here are the links to Marathi and English blogs respectively.
In this part, I am going to present 10 of Anilda's best compositions for Mukesh, Manna Dey, Kishore Kumar, Hemant Kumar and Talat Mahmood in that order, first in Marathi and then in English.
If you like it, please leave a comment on the blog itself with your name and share further. Thanks.
In the list compiled by me, total no. of songs composed by Anil da is 579. Out of 579 songs, 373 (64%) songs are Solo. Out of the 373 Solo songs, male singers have sung 122 songs (33%), while the female singers have sung rest 251 (67%) songs!
Among the male singers, Surendra tops the list with 46 (27 Solo + 19 with others) songs. Anil da himself was an accomplished singer. He has sung 44 (19+25) of his own songs. The distribution of songs among the other leading male singers of that era is as follows: Manna Dey (39), Mukesh (26), Talat Mahmood (19), Shankar Dasgupta (14), Mohammad Rafi (11), Kishore Kumar (10) and Hemant Kumar (8). There are other male singers too; however, the no. of their songs is very less hence not mentioned here.
In today's part I will be presenting the songs sung by my favorite male singers.
This is a small story behind an immortal song. The year was 1940. Anilda's friend, Motilal, who himself was a great actor, brought a young aspiring boy to Anil da and told him that the boy sings well, and it would be great if Anil da can help him with an opportunity to sing for a film. Anil da heard him. Anil da later described his feelings "The boy had an unbelievable voice; however, he was lacking proper education and Riyaz (practice). He could not have rendered the Meend and Muraki". The boy returned dejected and empty handed but kept in touch with Anil da. In 1945, he got an opportunity from Anil da for a film "Pehli Nazar" in which Motilal was the main lead. Anil da had composed the song in Raag Mishra Darbari. It was planned to be recorded at HMV Studios on a certain date and time. However, going by previous experience, the boy could not gather enough courage to sing Anilda's song, and went to a bar to drink in the expectation of gaining the necessary courage. Anil da was getting impatient due to the boy's absence. Finally, in extreme anger, he went to the bar and almost dragged the young boy to the studio. Anil da slapped him very strongly, upon which the boy started weeping. Anil da allowed the boy to overcome his emotions and then recorded the song by him. It was okayed in the first go. The song went on to achieve the immortality in the history of the Hindi film songs. The song was "Dil Jalta Hai To Jalne De" and the young singer was Mukesh Chandra Mathur - none other than our own Mukesh!
Mukesh had sung that song with so much emotion and in his soulful voice that the audience mistook him to be Kundan Lal Saigal (the first superstar singer of 1930-40's). However, Anil da cautioned Mukesh and urged him not to mimic Saigal but follow his own style and voice. Mukesh followed this Guru Mantra and went on to become a legend himself.
Let's listen to this famous song by Mukesh.
Dil Jalta Hai To Jalne De - Pehli Nazar (1945) - Lyricist Safdar Aah Sitapuri
The second song of Mukesh to be presented below is very dear to me. It is from the 1951 film "Aaram". It's been picturized on Premnath - the famous villain of yesteryears who had played Hero's roles at the start of his film career. In 1951, Anil da had composed music for 4 films viz. "Badi Bahu", "Aaram", "Tarana" and "Do Sitare". All the songs in these films are simply superb. One strives to listen to them again and again. This particular song is also very sweet. "Aaram" had a love triangle between a talented singer Kumar (Premnath), Leela (Madhubala) and Artist Shyam (Dev Anand). Kumar loves Leela; however on finding that Leela loves Shyam, Kumar is devastated. The Piyano at the beginning of the song so impactfully depicts the clutter in Kumar's mind as his heart is broken. This is the genius of Anil da. The Piyano tune would also remind you of a similar tune in a popular Marathi song sung by the great Sudhir Phadke, who considered Anil da to be his Guru. Let's listen to this sweet melody from Anil da in the voice of Mukesh.
Ai Jaane Jigar Dil Mein Samaane Aa Jaa - Aaram (1951) - Lyricist Rajendra Krishna
2) Manna Dey (मन्ना डे)
Manna Dey - nephew of the legendary singer from 1930's Krishna Chandra Dey (K. C. Dey) - started his playback singing career in 1943 with the film "RamRajya". However, owing to the quality of his voice, the composers usually gave him songs from the religious movies only. We have often heard Manna da sing songs for a character actor in the film or a background song depicting the philosophy of life. It was only after the initial struggle for 5-7 years, Manna da got a breakthrough by Anil da who had believed that Mannada's voice can be used for the Hero of the film. Thus, in the 1953 film "Hamdard" starring Shekhar and Nimmi in the lead roles, Anil da got Manna da sung 5 songs. The song being presented below is one of them, it's a Ghazal. Later, in 1960, music composer Ravi composed the same Ghazal differently and got Rafi saab to sing it. You can listen to Rafi's version of the same Ghazal here.
The second song I would like to present of Manna da is a non-filmi song! To our surprise, Manna da has number of non-Filmi hit Bengali and Hindi songs to his credit! This particular song is composed by Anil da in Raag Malhar. It was composed basically for Aakashvani, and was the first song to be played at the inaguration of Aakashvani's Vividh Bharati channel on 3rd Oct 1957. The song comprises of beautiful Aalaap and Murakat which makes it more beautiful. Both the songs of Manna da being presented here depicts his great mastery over Hindustani Classical music. Presenting below 2 versions of the same song - first one is the original and the second one is from an interview of Manna Da which he gave for Doordarshan's "Anandan" programme. It's a real pleasure to see the legend sing his song live. Hope you will like it too.
Kishore Kumar started his Hindi film career as an actor in the 1946 film "Shikari". As a singer, he was given a break by the legendary composer Khemchand Prakash in the 1948 film "Ziddi" starring Dev Anand and Kamini Kaushal. Since his childhood, Kishore Kumar had idolized the legendary singer from 1930's and 40's - Kundan Lal Saigal. Thus, he used to try and copy Saigal's style of singing. If we hear his songs from the first few films, it will be evident to us. However, credit to him, Kishore Kumar found his own style when he started experimenting with Yodeling. Because of this, many composers of those times did not believe that Kishore can sing serious songs. However, Anil da was sure that Kishore can do wonders even with sad songs. In 1953, in his film "Fareb", Anil da gave Kishore 3 songs - 2 solo and 1 duet with Lata. All the songs were extremely popular. Anil da tried using Kishore in 1956 film "Paisa Hi Paisa", however that did not work since both its music and film itself flopped heavily at the box office. Audience went searching for the old Anil da who were missing in this film. Anyways, I am presenting below one of the most beautiful sad songs of Kishore from the film "Fareb".
Hemant Kumar was not in Anilda's favorite singers list; since he only has sung 8 songs under Anil da out of which 4 are solo. However, I still selected this particular song for reasons as follows - 1) After the worst two years of his life 1955 and 1956, Anil da managed to roar back with great music in 2 of his next films in 1957 viz. "Jalti Nishani" and "Pardesi". Both the films did not run well; however, its songs were a hit. 2) What struck me most was the use of chorus since the 5th second from the start of the song, it lasts till the end. The main voice and the chorus sing hand-in-hand (or shall I say note-by note), the difference being while the male singer sings the lyrics, the chorus only hums the tune. Let's now listen to this melodious song.
Keh Rahi Hai Zindagi Jee Sake To Jee - Jalti Nishani (1957) - Lyricist Qamar Jalalabadi
5) Talat Mahmood (तलत महमूद)
Talat Mahmood was born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh in a traditional, conservative Muslim family. He had a liking towards acting and singing in films, which was against the wishes of his family. However, he pursued his passion. In 1936, Talat sang few Ghazals for All India Radio. HMV soon realized the distinct quality of Talat's voice and came out with few records of his songs. Thus, Talat's fame as a Ghazal singer spread as far as Kolkata (then Calcutta). Owing to his wish of acting/singing in films, Talat came to Kolkata in 1944. He sang "Tasveer Teri Dil Mera Bahla Na Sakegi" under the music direction of Kamal Dasgupta. This non-Film song became an instant hit. Talat was later awarded many Bengali non-Film songs, he sang all of them under the name "Tapan Kumar". Many of his Bengali songs became extremely popular. However, Talat was not completely satisfied since his wish was still not fulfilled. So, he decided and migrated to Mumbai (then Bombay) in 1949.
Upon a friend's advice, Talat approached Anil da. Anil da listened to Talat's songs and was very impressed with the softness and a characteristic quiver in his voice. He immediatey signed him for his film "Aarzoo" (1950) and gave him the song "Ai Dil Mujhe Aisi Jagah Le Chal Jahan Koi Na Ho". The song became an instant hit just like Mukesh's first song for Anil da "Dil Jalta Hai". A new star had arrived on the horizon of Hindi film music, Anil da proved to world again that he has the knack of finding the real talent. Let's listen to this wonderful song.
Ai Dil Mujhe Aisi Jagah Le Chal - Aarzoo (1950) - Lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri
The second Talat song being presented below is from the 1951 film "Aaram". After Talat's first Hindi film song "Ai Dil Mujhe Aisi Jagah Le Chal" was hit, he started getting offers from various music composers. However, at the same time, few people in the Hindi film industry started the rumor that Talat gets nervous while singing hence causing the quiver in his voice. As a result, many composers moved away from Talat. This disturbed Talat mentally and he started doubting his abilities. He tried changing his style of singing and avoid the quiver in his voice. When Anil da called him to sing for "Aaram", Anil da was disappointed with Talat's voice and changed singing style. When Talat told him the reasons for the change, Anil da told Talat that the soft voice and quiver are the unique properties of his voice and hence he should not be guilty about it. These words coming from a very senior composer helped Talat regain his confidence, and he recorded what turned out to be another gem in his long career.
It is important to specially mention here that the song being presented below has been sung and picturized on Talat himself! In the movie, he is actually portraying the feelings of movie's hero Kumar(Premnath). Also note Talat's soft voice and excellent singing. Anil da has used only 3 instruments in particular - a Harmonium, Tabla and Violin in the background. But what a beautiful composition it's been! Let's enjoy this great song.
The next song being presented is in reality a Ghazal penned by the great Sahir Ludhiyanvi. It's from the film "Do Raha" (1952). Anil da could manage only 2 films in the year 1952 - "Aakash" and "Do Raha". Though "Do Raha" was not a music oriented its songs became popular. Talat sung 4 out of 9 songs! Looking at Anil da's composer career, I always wonder why he could not work more with Sahir when he (Sahir) was at his peak during the 1950's (only 2 films and 9 songs between Sahir and Anil da). I also wonder, sadly though, that why Anil da and the legendary singers from 1930's and 40's - Saigal and Noorjehan - could not work together even for one song! Anyways, enjoy this melodious Ghazal.
Mohabbat Tark Ki Maine - Do Raha (1952) - Lyricist Sahir Ludhiyanvi
झालं असं की आल्फ्रेड हिचकॉक या प्रसिद्ध दिग्दर्शकाचा इंग्रजी चित्रपट "The Man Who Knew Too Much" हा १९५६ साली प्रदर्शित झाला होता.
Finally, I present the last song of this part and the 4th of Talat's songs for Anil da. To our surprise, this song has been inspired by a very famous English song! Anil da, who was known for composing most of his songs based on Indian music (classical, folk, etc.), he was indeed inspired by a song "Que Sera, Sera" from the 1956 film "The Man Who Knew Too Much" directed by the legendary director Alfred Hichcock. The song was written and composed by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans and was sung by Doris Day. It was so popular that it became the signature song of Doris Day.
Anil da was inspired by its composition, and gave it his own touch while composing "Jeevan Hai Madhuban" written by Indeevar for the 1957 film "Jasoos". The song became popular in India too.
I will be presenting both English and Anilda's song below so that you will be able to not only enjoy but also spot the differences in two compositions. While the English song uses Guitar and possibly Mandolin as primary instruments and Piano plays in the background, Anil da has used Piano as his prime instrument accompanied by Violin and Tabla. Let's hear these two wonderful melodious songs.
Jeevan Hai Madhuban Tu Ismein Phool Khila - Jasoos (1957) - Lyricist Indeevar and
Que Sera, Sera - The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) - Singer Doris Day
With this I come to the end of Part 2 of my 4-part series on Anil da. Hope you enjoyed all the songs presented herein. Please do leave your comment on the blog itself and spread the word. Thank you.

I am really very happy to present my new blog to you during the horrible times of the deadly pandemic. Hope this blog will keep you away, for some time though, from your pains and give you a chance to explore the pleasure through music.
Today, I am going to present the work of one of the most talented composers and singers of the Hindi and Bengali film industry - Hemanta Kumar Mukhopadhyay aka Hemant Kumar.
English version of the blog follows the Marathi version below. Please do read and share your feelings. Thanks.

Hemant da, SD, Salil da and RD 4 Doyens of Bengali Films Image Courtesy: National Herald

"When I listen to Hemant Kumar, I feel that his voice resembles a monk singing in a temple" - Lata Mangeshkar
"If God would have liked to sing, he would have sung in Hemant Kumar's voice" - Salil Chowdhury
The above words of appreciation from the greats like Lata and Salil da give us a glimpse of the immense talent of Singer-Composer-Producer Hemant Kumar.
Hemant Kumar alias Hemantda was born at Varanasi on 16th June 1920 at his maternal home. His grandfather (from his mother's side) was a Doctor by profession. He was born to Kalidas Mukherjee and Kiranbala Devi. Within a few years of Hemantda's birth, his family shifted to their ancestral home at Baharu in 24 South Paragana. Hemantda spent most of his childhood days there. His mother - Kiranbala Devi - was fond of writing poems and composing them. Hemantda might have picked up his musical skills from his mother.
Hemantda studied at a school in Baharu. In 1928, his family shifted to Kolkata. He got to hear Jatra Gaan and songs of traveling minstrels. He used to quickly remember the tunes and reproduce them. He soon developed a friend circle, his friends used to like Hemanta's voice and singing. One such friend was Subhas Mukherjee. Subhas was a budding poet. He managed to arrange Hemanta's audition at Indian Broadcasting Corporation, which later became All India Radio (AIR). Upon getting a chance at AIR, Hemanta sang 2 of the songs written by his friend Subhas. Both were in their tender age of 15, and this was a rare feat achieved by them. Next year, AIR called Hemanta once again and recorded 2 songs. Slowly but surely, people started taking note of this new kid on the horizon and used to call him Chhota Pankaj (named after the famous composer-singer of those times Pankaj Mullick).
In 1937, Hemanta passed the matriculation exam as per the wishes of his father and got admission into Jadavpur University for Mechanical Engineering. His father's friend - Shanti Bose - introduced Hemanta to another famous composer and Radio star - Sailesh Duttagupta. Sailesh used to teach Music at Columbia and HMV companies, thus he had the skill of identifying true talent. Sailesh liked Hemanta's voice so much that he recorded 2 songs after rehearsing them for about 10 days. "Jaanite Jodi Go Tumi" and "Bolo Go Bolo More" were those two songs. That was December 1937 and Hemanta was just 17 years old! With the help of Sailesh da, Hemanta could record one more record in 1938. He got Rs. 40/- as his payment for recording 2 records, from which his father purchased a Harmonium for Hemanta. Through Sailesh, Hemanta got to know Bani Kumar. Bani gave another opportunity to Hemanta to sing for AIR. Sailesh taught Hemanta the famous Rabindra Sangeet, while Bhushan Banerjee gave him initial teachings in Hindustani Classical Music. Hemanta recorded some songs in Rabindra Sangeet for AIR, thus started his long association with Rabindra Sangeet.
Hemantda not only was a great singer, but also a great Composer and a Producer.
Hemanta got his first break as a singer in Bengali film through a 1940 film viz. "Nimai Sanyas" and another one "Priya Bandhobi" in 1944 in which he rendered Rabindra Sangeet. The same year, Hemantda recorded 2 non-film songs (NFS) viz. "Kotha Koyo Nako, Shudhu Shono" and "Aamar Birohe Aakashe Priya". Hemanta got to sing for Hindi films first time in the 1944 film "Irada" music composed by Pt. Amarnath. "Aaram Se Jo Raate Kaate" and "Phir Mohabbat Ke Payaam" were his first 2 songs for Hindi films.
Between 1941 and 1950, Hemantada recorded approx. 70 Bengali and 40 Hindi Non-Film songs, out of which he composed music for 20 Bengali and 7 Hindi songs. The majority of rest of the Hemanta's songs were composed by Kamal Dasgupta. 1947 saw Hemant Kumar being introduced to the Bengali Film Industry as a Music Composer with the film "Abhijatri".
In 1945, Hemantda became a member of the Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA). At IPTA, he got to know Salil Chowdhury - another famous and genius musician. Thus began a long-lasting association of Hemant da and Salil da. The Non-Film song "Gaaner Bodhu" sung by Hemanta and composed by Salil da in 1949 became an instant hit and people started recognizing the duo. The same tune was re-used in its Hindi version "Ek Bholi Bhali Gaaon Ki Raani". From thereon, the duo of Hemant da and Salil da has given the audience a treasure of a number of songs, which shows their friendship and respect for each other. You can listen to some of their best songs in the following 2 links. It is worth spending time and listen to these songs even though you may not understand Bengali.
While working for AIR, in 1943, Hemanta got to know Bela Mukherjee - a talented singer herself. Bela has sung no. of songs both in Bengali and Hindi films. Later in December 1945, Hemanta married Bela. Their first child - son Jayanta - was born in 1947. Both Hemanta and Bela have few duets to their credit. One such song is from the 1958 Hindi film "Sahara" viz. "Har Dukhada Sehnewali".
Hemantda's entry into Hindi films was in 1952, almost 15 years after he had recorded his first song. Hemen Bose was directing the film "Anand Math" based on the great Bankimchandra's novel with the same name. He invited Hemanta to compose music for the film and Hemanta did not disappoint. Hemantda composed a total of 9 songs for this film - out of which 3 were duets with Geeta Dutt, 2 solos by Geeta Dutt, 1 duet by Talat Mahmood and Geeta Dutt, and 1 solo each by Rajkumari (actor Manmohan Krishna's sister), Lata Mangeshkar and Hemant Kumar himself. The song "Vande Mataram" sung by Lata became extremely popular. It is said that Hemen Bose had 20 retakes of this song only to synchronize the song's rhythm with the hoof movements of the horses in the movie. Such was the strive for perfection by all.
The success of "Anand Math" paved the way for Hemantda in the Hindi Film Industry. From 1952 to 1989, Hemantda composed more than 450 songs for 75 Hindi films. Out of these 75 films, 11 films had more than 9 songs each, which sums up to 119 songs, approx 25% of the total no. of Hindi film songs composed by Hemantda.
What followed was a barrage of wonderful compositions through the films "Jagruti" (1954), "Naagin" (1954), "Shart" (1954), "Miss Mary" (1957), "Bees Saal Baad" (1962), "Sahib, Biwi Aur Ghulam" (1962), "Kohra" (1964), "Anupama" (1966) and "Khamoshi" (1970). "Nagin" songs were so popular that they were in top position in various Radio programmes for few years. The same film won Hemant Kumar his first prestigious Filmfare Award in 1955 for the Best Music Director.
In late 1950's, Hemantda turned to production, he formed a company "Geetanjali Productions" and made some wonderful films in 1960's. E.g. "Bees Saal Baad" (1962), "Kohra" (1964), "Faraar" (1965), "Biwi Aur Makaan" (1966), "Raahagir" (1969) and "Khamoshi" (1970). "Bees Saal Baad' and "Khamoshi" were extremely successful both commercially and musically.

As a Music Composer, Hemantda worked with more than 50 singers right from the second generation singers like Shamshad Begum, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosale up to Amit Kumar, Suresh Wadkar, Yesudas, Usha Utthup and Sheron Prabhakar! The list of Hemantda's singers included 3 Music Composers viz. C. Ramchandra, Ravi and Ghulam Mohammad!! Amongst the female singers, Lata tops the list with approx. 111 songs, Asha with 53 and Geeta Dutt with 17 songs. From the male singers, Hemantda himself sang 83 songs while Rafi 17 and Kishore Kumar 14 songs were among the noted singers. To our surprise, Talat Mehmood features only in 1 solo and 3 duet songs, while Mukesh has sung only 4 songs along with other singers, no solo! Perhaps the Singer within Hemantda thought that he would sung his own compositions better than Talat and Mukesh, which is understandable.
Songs composed by Hemant Kumar sung by other singers:
Hemantda's voice was unique, it was haunting, had a great baas and thus suited mostly to serious songs or Bhajans. However, he sang all types of songs in both Hindi and more so in Bengali.
Hemantda has another distinction in that he has lent his voice to more than 100 songs under different Music Directors. There is no other composer-singer who has this record. E.g. S. D. Burman, Madan Mohan, C. Ramchandra and R. D. Burman were all singers as well as composers, but hardly sang songs under other Music Directors. He has sung 13 songs under S. D. Burman out of which 12 were for Dev Anand. Under C. Ramchandra, Hemantda has sung 9 songs in all.
Some of Hemantda's best songs under other Music Directors:
Hemantda's work in Bengali films is hugely commendable - both quantitatively and qualitatively. From 1940 to 1988, for 48 years, he composed around 700 songs for 146 films - out of which he sang around 300 songs as Solo or with other singers. He also sang around 275 songs under other composers.
While gathering information about Hemant Kumar on the internet, I came across an article by R. Rangaraj in the Time Of India dated last year about Hemantda's contribution to Tamil films. It looks like he has composed around 20 Tamil songs. It started in 1954 when a Hindi film "Samrat" was being dubbed in Tamil as "Kaadhal Parisu", Hemant Kumar composed 6 songs. When the film "MissiAmma" originally made in Telugu and Tamil with music from S. Rajeshwarrao was being remade in Hindi with the name "Miss Mary" in 1957, Hemantda insisted that he would make fresh compositions except for one viz. "Brindavan Ka Krishna Kanhaiyya". He composed new tunes for "Miss Mary" and all songs became very popular. Even the great Tamil Composer Illiya Raja was inspired by Hemantda's "Kahin Deep Jale Kahin Dil" from the film "Bees Saal Baad" and composed his song "Vaazhve Maayamaa" for the film "Gayathri" in 1977.
From 1952 to 1970, Hemant da was composing music for Hindi and Bengali films in parallel. It must have been a herculean task to churn out fresh music every time, but if you really study his compositions from these 2 languages, you will realize that most of the compositions are fresh and not copy of each-other. Such was the mastery of Hemantda over the music. I have managed to compile following information based on the data that is available on https://www.hindigeetmala.net/ and https://www.songsofyore.com/category/singers/hemant-kumar/. It is very difficult to get information about all songs composed, sung by Hemant Kumar, hence the below information is not 100% accurate, however gives us an idea of the volume of work Hemantda did over the years.
Hemantda was awarded Padmashri in 1970 and Padma Bhushan in 1987; however he declined both the awards with utmost humbleness. In 1971, Hemantda received National Award as the Best Male Singer for his song in the Bengali film "Nimontron". He was also the recipient of Sangeet Natak Akadami award in 1986. In September 1989, Hemantda had travelled to Dhaka, Bangla Desh, for a concert. After returning from there, he suffered a Heart attack, and died on the 26th Sept 1989. His sudden death left a big void in both Bengali and Hindi film industries. However he is immortal through his compositions and songs, we still remember and miss him a lot.
It's not possible to cover Hemantda's entire work in on blog, however this is my humble attempt to do so. Hope you liked it. Thank you.
Today, I am presenting 2 of Hemantda's best compositions - one Hindi and other Bengali.
1) Havaaon Pe Likh Do, Havaaon Ke Naam - Do Duni Chaar (1970) - Singer Kishore Kumar - Lyricist Gulzar
The song starts with sound of the wind flowing in the jungle, followed by the entry of the Hero of the film Kishore Kumar wearing white Kurta and Dhoti. And what follows is a wonderful melodious tune of the song. Hemantda has used Sitar, Flute and Rhythm instruments quite beautifully in the song. Kishore's muscular voice has only added to the sweetness of the song. Do enjoy the video given just before the start of this English version.
2) Ke Jeno Go Dekeche Aamaay - Monihar (1966) - Singer Hemant Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar - Lyricist Mukul Dutt
"Monihar" was one of the most popular Bengali films ni the '60s. It was a Multi-starrer movie with Soumitro Chatterjee, Biswajeet, Sandhya Roy, and Pahadi Sanyal as its cast. All the songs composed by Hemantda were very melodious. The song that I have presented has 2 versions - the Male version has Hemant Kumar as a major singer supported by Lata, while the Female version has exactly the opposite. In the Male version, Hemantda seems to have used only Tanpura and Tabla as accompanying instruments, while the Female version has Sarangi added to it. Another thing to note is that in both versions, the accompanying instruments do not overpower the voice. Enjoy the video given above just before the start of this English version.
Thank you. Have a great day.
Note: I have had to refer to various sources on the internet to collect information about Hemantda's songs; however in spite of this, it was not possible to get all the information. Hence there could be few errors in the numbers given. But it does give us an idea about the magnitude of Hemantda's work. Hope readers would understand and appreciate this.
