दिन है सुहाना आज पहली तारीख है - पहली तारीख (१९५४) - गीतकार क़मर जलालाबादी - संगीतकार सुधीर फडके - गायक किशोरकुमार
महिन्याची पहिली तारीख आणि रविवार असा सुवर्णयोग "आरंभ-स्वर" मालिकेसाठी क्वचितच येतो. याचे औचित्य साधत आज एक अनोखे गीत सादर करत आहे. अनोखे अशासाठी की एकतर सुधीर फडके आणि किशोरकुमार या संगीतकार-गायक जोडीचे हे एकमेव गाणे आहे, आणि तेही महिन्यातल्या एका दिवसावर म्हणजे पहिल्या तारखेवर!
फ्रँक काप्रा या हॉलिवूड मधील प्रसिद्ध दिग्दर्शकाचा "It's a Wonderful Life" हा एक अफलातून संकल्पनेवर आधारलेला चित्रपट - साल १९४६. त्यातील नायक जॉर्ज (जेम्स स्टीवर्ट) आणि त्याचे सुखी कुटुंब अचानक आलेल्या आर्थिक संकटाने सैरभैर होतात. जॉर्ज "मी जन्मलोच नसतो तर बरे झाले असते" असे वाटून आत्महत्या करायला निघतो. तेंव्हा त्याला एक देवदूत वाचवतो आणि त्याच्याशिवाय जग कसे चालले आहे, ते जग किती सुंदर आहे हे दाखवतो. ते पाहून "एक नया अनमोल जीवन मिल गया" अशी तलत महमूदच्या एका जुन्या गाण्यासारखी जॉर्जची अवस्था होते आणि तो पुन्हा आपल्या कुटुंबात परततो, देवदूताच्या कृपेमुळे त्याच्यावरची सर्व संकटे दूर होतात आणि पुन्हा एकदा सर्वजण सुखी, आनंदी जीवनाचा आस्वाद घेतात.

राजा नेने निर्मित आणि दिग्दर्शित "पहली तारीख" हा चित्रपट १९५४ साली प्रदर्शित झालेला चित्रपट "It's a Wonderful Life" या चित्रपटाच्या सर्वस्वी विरुद्ध (उलटा) होता. शामलाल (स्वतः राजा नेने) अत्यंत गरिबीच्या परिस्थितीला कंटाळून शेवटी आत्महत्या करतो पण त्याच्या आत्म्याला स्वर्गात कोणी प्रवेश देत नाही; त्यामुळे तो भूत बनून परत एकदा पृथ्वीवर येतो. आता तो त्याच्या कुटुंबाची हलाखीची परिस्थिती बघतो पण काही करू शकत नाही. संपूर्ण चित्रपट हा दुःखाने भरलेला आहे, मात्र चित्रपटाच्या सुरुवातीला असणारे आजचे गाणे मात्र अतिशय गंमतीशीर आहे.
Qamar Jalabadi
आज सादर करत असलेले गीत लिहिले आहे ओमप्रकाश भंडारी उर्फ क़मर जलालाबादी यांनी. महिन्याच्या पहिल्या तारखेला होणाऱ्या पगारावर ज्यांचे आयुष्य अवलंबून असते त्यांच्या आयुष्यातील गमतीजमती यात आल्या आहेत. उदा. घरी लवकर या आणि मला सिनेमाला घेऊन चला असे सांगणारी बायको, महिन्याची उधारी फेडून घ्यायला आलेले लालाजी, सर्वांना पगार दिल्यावर तिजोरी रिकामी होणार म्हणून बेचैन झालेले सेठजी आणि आम्हाला खेळणी आणा असा हट्ट करणारी पोरं असे अनेक प्रसंग अक्षरशः डोळ्यासमोर घडताहेत असे शब्दांतून उभे केलेत!
Sudhir Phadke
बाबूजींनी लावलेली प्रत्येक कडव्याची चाल वेगळी आहे, दोन अंतऱ्यांमधील संगीतही वेगवेगळे आहे. बाबूजींनी त्यांच्या नेहमीच्या शैलीपेक्षा वेगळा प्रयोग केला आहे. मुख्यतः व्हायोलिन, तबला, ढोलकी आणि घुंगरू यांचा वापर करून बांधलेली चाल मजा आणते. या गाण्याचे आणखीन एक वैशिष्ट्य म्हणजे "बंदा बेकार है किस्मत की मार है" या कडव्याला पार्श्वसंगीतच नाहीये कारण प्रसंग दुःखाचा आहे, पार्श्वसंगीत वाजते ते थेट कडवे संपताना! बाबूजींच्या या कल्पकतेचे, संवेदनशीलतेचे कौतुक करायला हवे. सुधीर फडके यांच्या हिंदी चित्रपटांतील संगीत कारकिर्दीबद्दल मी माझ्या आधीच्या ब्लॉगमध्ये सविस्तर लिहिले आहे. ते इथे वाचावे - सुधीर फडके - सव्यसाची संगीतकार-गायक.
Kishore Kumar
किशोरकुमारने आपल्या ताकदपूर्ण आवाजाने आणि हरकतींनी त्यात जादू भरली आहे. प्रत्येक कडव्यातील व्यक्तिरेखेत तो अक्षरशः घुसलाय उदा. "बंदा बेकार है किस्मत की मार है" म्हणताना त्याच्या आवाजातील दुःख किंवा "पांच आने का दस आना" म्हणताना केलेले मार्केटिंग किंवा "खिलौने जरा लाना" म्हणतानाचा त्याचा लहान मुलाचा स्वर कमाल आहे. किशोरकुमार शिवाय या गाण्याला कोणीही न्याय देऊ शकले नसते हे नक्की, त्यामुळे बाबूजींच्याही गायक निवडीला दाद द्यायला पाहिजे.
हे गाणे आजही रेडिओ सिलोनवर दर महिन्याच्या पहिल्या तारखेला सकाळी ७:३० वाजता लागते! आणि दररोज ८ वाजता कार्यक्रमाच्या शेवटी कुंदनलाल सैगल (ज्यांना किशोरकुमार गुरु मानत असे) यांचे गाणे वाजते. गुरु आणि शिष्याला अशा प्रकारे अमर करणाऱ्या रेडिओ सिलोनचेही कौतुक करायला हवे.
ऐका तर एक गंमतशीर, चैतन्यपूर्ण गाणे. चित्रपटाचा अथवा गाण्याचा video उपलब्ध नसल्याने फक्त audio स्वरूपात ऐकावे लागेल, पण तरीही हे गाणे आपल्याला आवडेल अशी अशा आहे. कसे वाटले ते नक्की कळवा. धन्यवाद.

First day of the month, that too being a Sunday is a boon for the song series like "Aarambha-Swar" since I decided to present one song on the first Sunday of every month. The song presented today is peculiar in the sense it not only is the only
song by the duo of Sudhir Phadke and Kishore Kumar, but also it is based on the
events that happen in common man’s life on the 1st day of every
month!
The year 1946 saw the release of an out-of-box movie in Hollywood viz.
“It’s a Wonderful Life” directed by the famous director Frank Capra. The film’s
hero George (James Stewart) and his happy family face a sudden economic crisis
and they are in despair. George, out of frustration, thinks how better it would
have been had he not born in first place, and decides to suicide. However, an
Angel comes and saves him, and shows him how beautiful the world is. After
this, George returns happily to his family and all ends well.

The Hindi movie “Pehli Tarikh” released in 1954 was a realist inversion of
“It’s a Wonderful Life”. It was an unusual story about the poor Shamlal (Raja Nene)
who, faced with starvation, commits suicide. His soul is not admitted into
heaven and he is condemned to return to earth as a disembodied spirit. He has
to watch his family face starvation and imprisonment and, in the film’s climax,
is unable to prevent his wife and daughter from committing suicide as well. The
film helped establish Nirupa Roy’s realist image. It was remade in Kannada and
Tamil (Modalatedi/Mudhal Thedi, 1955) by P. Neelakantan.
Qamar Jalalabadi
The song that is being presented today was written by Omprakash Bhandari aka
Qamar Jalalabadi. It was picturized on an actor viz. Maruti. The song describes
various events that are dependent upon the salary being paid to the common man.
The words are so powerful that one can visualize all the events. E.g. The wife
who urges the husband to come home early and go for the movie, Lalaji who
visits the house to recover the advance, a Sethji who is concerned about the left-over
money after paying to his staff and last but not the least the kids who are
after Papa to buy them toys.
Sudhir Phadke
Sudhir Phadke, who was popularly known as Babuji, has composed this
song completely differently from his normal soothing style. Every Antara (stanza) and
music between two Antaras are different. Violin, Tabla, Dholak and the
jingling bells are prominently used. Another notable thing about the song is
that the Antara viz. “Bandaa Bekaar Hai Kismat Ki Maar Hai” does not
have any background music until it finishes since it’s the tragic moment which is being
described. One must appreciate the apt understanding of the lyrics by the

Kishore Kumar
Kishore Kumar’s powerful yet cheerful voice has upped the level of the
song. He has perfectly portrayed the character in every Antara through
the correct use of his voice and tone. E.g. his voice saddens while singing “Bandaa
Bekaar Hai Kismat Ki Maar Hai”, while singing the “Khilaune Zara Laanaa” line,
he sounds a little kid!The variation in
his voice and tone are unbelievable! It’s hard to imagine anybody other than
Kishore singing this song, hence even Babuji’s choice of singer must be
appreciated.
The song was hugely popular and attained a cult status when Radio Ceylon
started playing the song as the first song at 7:30am on the first day of every
month, while ending the programme with Kundan Lal Saigal’s (whom Kishore
considers his Guru) song. Thus, Radio Ceylon has immortalized both the Guru
and Shishya in a peculiar way.
Let’s listen to the song in the audio form only since the video of song or
movie is not available. However, I am sure you will still be able to enjoy it.
